ELTjam is an educational product development agency based in the UK. We’ve been working with education organisations and product teams since 2013, focussed mainly on English Language Teaching. We love helping our clients to create products that are both effective and a joy to use. We specialise in implementing new ways of working designed to get those products to market rapidly.
Co-founder & Director
Tim has been working in ELT since 2004. After teaching in China, he worked at Cambridge University Press in their primary and digital teams from 2008 until 2012. He then worked for SELT, a Turkish publisher, to help them develop a digital product for learners entering English-medium universities. Today, he works on a variety of ELTjam’s projects, from LXD workshops to training to product development to conference talks. Outside of work, he makes music and dances with his young daughters in the kitchen.

Laurie has worked in ELT since 1996 and in ELT digital publishing for over 15 years, with previous experience as a web developer and technology startup entrepreneur. From 2003–2013, he played a leading role in the digital publishing efforts of Cambridge University Press’s ELT business, managing digital operations and digital publishing. Since co-founding ELTjam 2013, Laurie has specialised digital product development and setting up and running large-scale digital publishing projects for our clients. Outside work, he spends his time playing and recording music and cooking.

Director & Head of Product
Jo has worked in ELT since 2006, as a teacher in Turkey and Malta, as eLearning Academic Lead for EC English and as Product Manager for English at busuu. Jo is a regular conference speaker and is the former Technology Coordinator for MaWSIG. Since joining ELTjam in 2014, Jo has focussed on product management, managing technical product builds and on developing our partnerships with technology companies and software developers.

Co-founder & Non-executive Director
Nick’s education career began in Spain in 2001. Since then he has worked extensively in educational publishing, materials writing, training and digital product development. He has held senior roles at Cambridge University Press and English360 and founded the world’s first English Language Teaching (ELT) author representation agency. He also co-founded and ran the ELT industry’s first special interest group for materials writing (MaWSIG) before co-founding ELTjam with Laurie and Tim in 2013. He is deeply interested in the ways in which technology is impacting education and has written extensively on the topic for the ELTjam blog. Outside of work he can mostly be found drinking natural wine and cooking.

Learner Experience Designer
Berta started out her career as a Primary School teacher, continued her journey studying Social & Cultural Anthropology and, most recently, immersing herself in User Experience Design. She’s been part of ELTjam since 2014 in different roles, including events managing – especially InnovateELT! Now as a LX designer you’ll find her creating user flows and wireframes, and running design sprints. Outside of ELTjam, she’s embarked on a 6-months peer-led learning marathon organised by Enrol Yourself.

Learner Experience Designer
Katy launched into ELT 5 years ago and has worked in Asia, Europe, South America and her native New Zealand. Since founding a podcast for exam preparation students, she has worked in publishing, writing and editing material for teenager learners. Outside of work you can find Katy expanding her ever growing list of hobbies, from playing tennis to skateboarding, swimming or hiking and eating her way around London.

Product ManagerAfter setting up and running an education charity for five years, Alex has turned his hand to building great learning products. He’s been designing his own learning experiences for over a decade and he finds it really exciting to be a part of such a dedicated and inspiring community of fellow LX designers. Content DeveloperTom started out in ELT as a volunteer teacher in Latin America in 2004. Since then he’s worked in teaching, publishing and now as freelance writer and editor.
Co-founder & Director, Enrol YourselfZahra is Co-founder and Director of Enrol Yourself, a social business redesigning lifelong learning through the power of peer groups. Zahra considers herself a ‘learner experience designer’ and she is fascinated by participatory group experiences and the role of learning in reaching for sustainability. She is a trained coach and co-organiser of the #LXDmeetup.
Simon le Maistre
Simon is a seasoned product manager who loves to create engaging and effective digital learning products. With a background in teacher training, content development and digital product management, he’s pioneering the cause of learner experience design in ELT, with two products making the shortlist for prestigious learning technology awards. When not collaborating with international teams online, you can find him camping in the woods with the kids.
Founder and Director, Cambridge Media Solutions
Martyn is Founder and Director of Cambridge Media Solutions, an end-to-end media provider to the ELT industry and beyond and our go-to video producer. Before founding CMS in 2013, Martyn worked within ELT as a teacher, ADOS and across various editorial roles while at Cambridge University Press. Since then, Martyn has delivered a range of editorial, audio and video projects in partnership with ELTjam.
